Cancer Awareness

T.I.T.T.S Taking it to the Streets Cancer Awareness Project The U.S. spends 75 percent of 2.5 trillion annual healthcare dollars on treatment of chronic conditions. However, only three pennies of every dollar is allocated towards prevention. Did you know that cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States? Furthermore, did you know that the cancer mortality rates in Duval County surpasses both the state and national levels? We, at SisterHermana Foundation, believe that these statistics are unacceptable. Therefore, we canvass communities in zip codes with the highest rates of late diagnoses and deaths. Distributing educational materials by medical professionals that identify signs and symptoms for early detection and required screenings for various forms of cancer. Also included are pamphlets on the importance of knowing your family health history. Referrals to our healthcare partners are available for those individuals who are under-insured or uninsured to receive screenings at free or reduced costs. Target Zip Codes Health Zones 1 – 32202, 32204, 32206, 32208, 32254 Health Zones 4 – 32209, 32218, 32219, 32220, 32226, 32234 Health Zone 5 – 32210, 32221, 32215, 32222 Source: Place Matters 2013 – Florida Department of Health Duval County Public Health Statistics, Assessment and Research In memory of Horace Nathaniel Glover, Sr. Walking one neighborhood at a time.
